Frequently asked questions
What does Tailora do?
You upload a photo of a model wearing a garment. Tailora turns it into a clear drawing of the garment for the tailor or dressmaker, lets you add notes with arrows, cuts the garment into pattern pieces (sleeves, bodice, skirt…) with seam allowance, reads the fabric colours and makes a printable tech pack PDF.
Is Tailora free?
Yes. Every device gets 100 free tokens: a photo costs 4 tokens (5 for a large file), so about 20–25 photos. Exports (PNG and PDF) are free while you still have tokens. PRO removes the limit.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens inside your own browser, on your own device. Your photos and drawings are never sent to our servers.
Can it remove the face and the background and show only the garment?
Yes. By default Whole model removes only the background, and you erase the head, arms or legs yourself with the brushes, exactly where you want. Garment only removes the face, hair and bare skin by itself; if a beige or brown fabric disappears, lower Skin removal or paint it back with Restore.
What are the Pro, Quill, Fino and Pencil Sketch pens?
Pro (the default) draws clean designer lines only where there is an edge: collar, buttons, seams, pleats, cuffs. Quill makes a soft pencil drawing that keeps folds and volume. Fino keeps only clean dark ink lines — seams, pleats, collar, pockets — for a clear technical drawing. Pencil Sketch is a pencil drawing with its own Sketch width: wider gives darker, fuller strokes that show the folds and volume of the fabric. All three share the sliders Cleanliness, Line strength, Line width and Smooth texture, and work on the garment only or on the whole model.
Can I cut the pieces at my own size and project them on my fabric?
Yes. In Pieces, choose the size the model in the photo wears and your size (or type your bust, waist, hips and height): the pieces are graded to your body. 📽️ Projector shows them at real size on your fabric after a 10 cm calibration, opens out pieces cut on the fold, and tells you how many metres of 110, 140 or 150 cm fabric you need. Without a projector, 📱 Phone camera draws them over your fabric at real size (a white A4 sheet on the fabric gives the size), or the 🖨️ Real-size PDF prints them 1:1 on A4 or Letter pages. This is a beta: pieces taken from a photo are a guide for a test garment (toile), not a fitted sewing pattern.
Can I see if a garment suits my body shape?
Yes. Open the 👗 Try on tab and upload the outfit photo: it is put on the five classic body shapes (hourglass, pear, apple, rectangle, inverted triangle), stretched to their bust, waist and hips, with a verdict, the reasons and a tip for each. Type her bust, waist and hips to see it on her own shape too.
Can I remove the arms, legs and head by hand?
Yes. In Retouch, 👆 Tap to remove takes away a whole arm, leg, the head or a leftover spot with one tap. 🎯 Body eraser brushes away skin and hair while the garment stays protected. 🧽 Eraser wipes anything, and 🩹 Restore paints the drawing back where something was removed by mistake. Brush size and Brush softness set the brush; Ctrl+Z undoes.
What if a belt, a hand or a bag hides part of the skirt?
Tailora finds a belt on the photo and cuts along both of its edges, so the belt becomes its own piece. The skirt or trousers are completed under the belt, and where a hand, an arm or a bag covered the garment the piece is completed too — the completed part is shown in light blue. You can also add a Waistband, Belt with buckle, Wide belt, Tie sash or Elastic waist from Belts & waistbands in Pieces.
Can Tailora cut the garment into pattern pieces?
Yes. In the Pieces tab, cut lines are placed for you at the armholes (to separate the sleeves) and at the waist; you can move them or draw your own. Each piece gets its cutting line, a dashed seam allowance, a grain line and how many to cut, and a centre fold can be used for symmetric pieces.
Can I get real sizes in centimetres?
Yes. With the Scale tool, draw along something you know (for example shoulder to shoulder) and type its real length. Every piece then shows its width and height in cm and the seam allowance is drawn to size. Sizes come from the photo, so always check them on the person.
What is in the tech pack PDF?
The front and back drawings with your notes, the fabric colours with their codes, a measurements table, your notes for the tailor, the fabric details, and the pattern pieces (4 per page). A4 or US Letter.
Can it remove a busy background from the photo?
Yes. Smart background removal finds the person even in a street, a room or a painting and removes the background before drawing. You can also save the photo, or only the garment, as a PNG with a transparent background. It runs inside your browser.
